Does anybody know how does move from one canton to another for work?

I've been living and working in Geneva for a few years on a work permit attached to the company. I'm non EU, so job change is subject to authorization (as I was told by a lawyer). Now I'm starting to look for a new job and see some interesting opening in Zurich.
If I apply for this job - what happens to my permit? Should GVA permit be cancelled and then I apply from scratch to Zurich OCPM?
Will my years spent in Geneva still count for the permit C later?
Is it possible to get a job in Zurich while keep my residence and permit attached to GVA?

Nothing. If you however get a job offer and accept it then your prospective employer would need to seek relevant work authorization on your behalf assuming you do not yet have an unconditional right to work.

You would need to ask permission from canton Zurich before moving. There is no such thing as 'Zurich OCPM'. OCPM stands for 'Office cantonale de la population et des migrations' which is the name of the migration office in canton Geneva.

Will my years spent in Geneva still count for the permit C later?
It depends on the type of permit you have in Geneva and whether or not you plan on interrupting your continuous stay in Switzerland.

As a non-EU you would need to seek permission from both cantons (permission to work in Zurich and permission to live in Geneva). Given the long commuting distance, I see slim to no chances of this being granted.

with a C permit, EU or not, it's a C. You can move within the country, live where you want and work where you want. You are taxed where you are resident.

you mention the permit is linked to the company. This is not the case for a C. Are you sure you have a C as none of what I stated above applied for a limited B.
