You can also print out the PDF forms and fill those in
https://www.steuerverwaltung.bs.ch/s...rung-2019.html
But some of them have stupid text printed over them and in the end it is not simpler than using the software. In the end it all boils down to two things: actual deductions vs assumed QS flat rate deductions (the only way to know this is to crunch the numbers in detail) AND difference between actual local tax rate vs mean cantons tax rate. Could be that in case of canton BS this is a less issue as the cities tax rate is more important than the rate of the other two communes. In canton of Zurich it can make a huge difference as the spread of tax rates is much wider.

In both cases you should have a look into the Wegleitung:

I thank you so so much for your kind reply and info. I appreciate you. Ok I will have a look and give a try then.. And thanks for the last link... Bloody 52pages... 😂😂 So basically this is the one we all have to face every year?

Kanton Zurich for sure, filed taxes on my B permit.
And from 1 Jan 2021, Geneva too, from 120k.

Used to be 500k a year in Geneva.

live in the City BS, how will it affect?

When you're on tax at source, they make some assumptions about deductions you could make and when you have to declare a tax return it could be that you can't claim those deductions. Also if you have foreign income that will also go into your tax return.

Going on a C from a B when you're on less than 120k can often mean a higher tax bill. For simple cases you can search for Steuerrechner Basel Stadt and fill in an online form.

In other cantons the kanton tax rate for tax at source is an average of the gemeinde tax rates. I believe that isn't the case in BS so will make no difference in itself to the tax rate (although there might be something odd going on in Bettingen etc)

Basel-Stadt certainly ask for tax returns for B permit holders on 120k+ but it took a few years to get mine. I had no idea that wasn't a countrywide thing. BS is not a very generous canton for tax.

Just pay an accountant to do it for you. They know the system inside out and will take most of the stress out of it. Costs usually between 150 and 350 CHFs, and maybe more depending how complicated your tax affairs are. I pay about 250 a year and it's a great investment.
