C permit advantages advise

Hi all,

I have some question over permit and hope you can give me some advise.
I am checking some thread about nachteil und Vorteile and to be honest to me at least there is not much difference between B and c
I heard
1: C permit holders has to fill in tax return every year.

:As a B permit, and my salary is less than 120k, I have never filled the form as it is deducted from my payslip which I like very much.

2:Even C permit has to renew every 5yrs with the same kind of docs required when you exactly do the B permit renewal.

:So what is the point of c permit?, z. B, if I became unemployed, the c permit would still protect our family to stay in Switzerland? As far as I understand the c permit is a permanent residence visa correct? I don't even know what would happen when B or c permit holders became unemployed.

Or maybe good for my child to have c permit? Please kindly let me know What c permit is good for.

Thank you!!

Re: C permit advantages advise

Permit and Visa are two separate things. You only need a visa for your first entry, after that you have the permit.

Permit C does not have to be renewed in the same sense as permit B has to be renewed. You only have to get a new physical card every so often. In general permit C is awarded indefinitely and unconditional. The sole condition is that you respect the law and constitution, pay your debts. If you are a non-EU/EFTA citizen permit C will get more flexibility: Free choice of place of residence, free choice of employer, and protection case you lose your job. Draw back: you might pay more taxes if you live in a high tax commune. If you are an EU/EFTA national permit C does not give that much additional perks. Nevertheless, permit C is a small step toward citizenship.

Note: The authorities can give you a permit C on there own. There is no option to deny it. This might happen if you are from one of the few countries which are exempt from the language requirement.

Re: C permit advantages advise

when you renew your C permit, you need your passport and the permit.

you also don't get tax deducted from your salary but rather get some bills to pay direct. That's very disturbing at first

Re: C permit advantages advise

I agree that doing taxes is a right royal PITA, but then again if you're just getting it deducted you can't claim anything back against tax, so in theory you're better off with the tax return.

Other advantages include:

Right to live in any canton.
Right to buy property (in any canton/commune, and without having to ask permission).
Right to remain in Switzerland indefinitely even if you have no job, as long as you're not dependant on social security. Can a B permit holder retire here when they only have their pension to live on?

Yes and going further, EUs have the right to retire here if pension/savings are high enough to not fall back on cantonal/communal social help and have appropriate health insurance.

Non-EUs can also be awarded retiree B permits but on a discretionary basis and subject to many more conditions (and there is no right to one).

Re: C permit advantages advise

Homeowners in other countries are better-off tax wise with a B as they are not asked to file a full tax self assessment. Tax is deducted by employer and no further questions are asked.

Also I have yet to see the rule for B permit holders earning 120k+ to file tax declarations put in practice, at least for the handful of cantons I am aware of.

You need a C permit to apply for citizenship. In some places a C permit allows you to vote in local elections/referendums. In theory if you have a C permit you donít have to keep proving your employment status in order to stay.

Thank you im EU member (still), but my wife is not (and she has got just a new B permit which valid only a year.
And thank you about some advantages so c permit gives you free choice of residence,(I did not know I can not move freely with B permit?), free choice of employees (maybe easy for c permit holder to find jobs since employers won't need to arrange B permit?), also protection in case of lost job (as far as I know even B permit holder can get RAV benefits right?, so what is more for C... My core question is when you are unemployed (with B permit), technically they could kick you out? But in case C permit they would not kick you out?), am just asking because finding jobs seem to me very hard right now.. I have one EU friend looking for almost 5yrs.(he can stay without any permit problem becuase. His wife is working full time), nevertheless we will never know so... And More tax? Wonder how Basel area is for that, any idea in basel compare to QS?

?
Canton BS? You might pay more if you live in Bettingen as this is the commun with the lowest tax in the canton. If you live in Basel City it could even out depending on were you work.

With permit B: They can kick you out if you need social aid (RAV / Chonmage is not social aid).
With permit C: They can downgrade you to B if you are on social aid for a long term and there is no prospect that it gets better (and than kick you out).

This doesn't make any sense, does it?

It doesn't. Correct is:

You might pay more QS than regular tax if you live in Bettingen as this is the commun with the lowest tax in the canton. If you live in Basel City it could even out depending on were you work.
