Permit C holder, apartment in Geneva, working abroad

Hello guys,

I have a question, which I think sounds weird but I just want to be 100% sure before I revoke my C permit.

I am working in Geneva, have a C permit, and I rent an apartment with the contract expiring in 4 years. I have just accepted a job abroad, so I will leave Switzerland next year and work somewhere else. My question is:

If I keep on paying for the apartment and health insurance, can I keep my C permit? And most importantly: will I have to pay taxes in Switzerland on my salary abroad?

The easy way out is to severe all ties with Switzerland, have someone take over my apartment and forfait my C permit. Though of course if there's even a remote possibility of keeping both (as I think I will want to return at some point), I will explore it! Thanks.

Put your c permit on hold with the commune if possible, and you plan on returning. Otherwise pretending to be a resident when you are not will likely eventually backfire; and yes, you would be taxed here if resident here.

Re: Permit C holder, apartment in Geneva, working abroad

A former colleague of mine with an EU citizenship found a new job in Dublin and parked his C with the commune. After 3.5 years abroad he found a new job back in CH and he's managed to un-park his C permit.

I asked him how he was able to park his C even though he wasn't leaving Switzerland for the normal allowable reasons such as education, it was just a new job. His response was that he just thought it would be a shame to give up a C permit in case he ever decided to come back, so when he parked his C, instead of asking a millions questions about whether or not what he was doing was allowed (which might raise flags with the commune) he asked no questions whatsoever, and it turned out they didn't ask him either.
