Naturalization tests for children

My children will soon be eligible for naturalization and I wonder if they need some sort of preparations for the naturalization process.

I'd heard that the tests are quite challenging, e.g. the applicants need to know very well about their neighborhood and trending politics topics. I wonder if the interview questions vary based on the applicants' ages. I don't expect my children to know much about the recent referendum choices and relevant debates. Can anyone share your experience on the tests, and what kind of preparation is required for children who applied for naturalization earlier than their parents.

Should parents be around during the interview? Does the integration of parents matter for children's application? Are children interviewed separately and individually? What kind of questions are usually asked?

Thanks!

Re: Naturalization tests for children

We've just gone through the process as a family. My daughter (15) didn't have to do the citizenship test because she has completed all obligatory schooling in local schools and it's assumed she's learnt everything anyway. Nor did she have to come to the interviews (our Gemeinde makes you do two!), although she was invited to. We decided it was better if she did join us, especially as she speaks fluent Swiss German and we don't

Questions asked of us all were just about all to do with how well we are integrated into our local community, same with the questions directed towards our daughter, although a bit more related to her interests, and also asking about her schooling.

I've had a friends whose children have gone through the whole process separate to them, mostly because either both parents weren't ready or one of them wasn't. We decided to do it all together as the whole process is so onerous and we just wanted to do all the paperwork etc once. We also figured that presenting a united front made us a bit more appealing from an integration perspective.

I've had two kids get it done, each on their own. No citizenship test, as they've both gone through the local Sekundarschule, and the interview at the Gemeindehaus was pretty simple - a member of the Stadtrat did an interview with the child, and the child was allowed to choose for a parent to be present or not, and it was pretty simple questions about what they like, what they've done in their life, and what they think they might do for a career.

For kids who've been through the local schools, there's not much stress in the whole process - they don't even need to get a certificate for their language level.

Re: Naturalization tests for children

Hi, we applied for my son in December and a few days ago got a letter to say he should attend for a test and that an interview will be held at a later date.
He is 14 and born here , and in local school.
As the original poster , I’m interested in knowing what was involved in the test He is a little nervous wit the test part ? Not the interview.
Any tips be great , thanks
