Marriage to non-Swiss

Hello everyone!

I hope you are having a relatively good start to the new year? I have a quick and hopefully uncomplicated question (my apologies if it was already asked and I have missed it). I did try to go back and search for it as I feel itís likely been asked before but I lucked out.

I recently got married to a non-Swiss person and Iím planning on making my way back health, covid and other acts of nature willing. Given this am I supposed to notify the canton/gemeinde of the change or they donít care if itís not a Swiss resident/citizen?

My spouse and I are Zimbabwean, I am on a B permit. He will not be coming back with me.

Any links or advise would be greatly appreciated! Even pointing me to the existing forum post ☺️

Thanks in advance. Stay safe and healthy.

Re: Marriage to non-Swiss

Welcome to the forum. When you say "making your way back", do you mean returning from... Zimbabwe (?)... to Switzerland?

If so, since you have a valid B-permit, that's all you will need, along wiht your valid passport, to enter Switzerland and continue to live here, as long as you continue to fulfil the conditions of the permit (for example, earn your own living or be independently wealthy). So no need to report anything with regard to that.

However, your marital status has now changed. To register that, you will probably need a certified copy of your full marriage certificate, and I recommend also of your husband's full birth certificate and his ID document and his passport.

Have a look here, too, for quite a bit of useful information.

Oh, and congratulations on your marriage!

Yes, I will be leaving Zimbabwe returning to Switzerland. A relief that there will be no issues in that regard.

Thank you for the information, welcome and well wishes.

You should also notify your employer so they can advise others in pensions, AVS, etc.
