Deregistration from home country

hi Guys

I am having an L-permit and recently I had left switzerland to my home country. Before, I left I had an oppurtunity with a New employer who was willing to transfer my workpermit.

But now the transfer of workpermit doesnt look possible and hence I would like return it to the authorities.

how can I do it from my home country. will just making a call to them will be enough?

(Actually my WP was under extension before I returned so it is with authorites already. I went to my home contry on a return visa.)

please advice.

thanks

That's a good question - I am in a somewhat similar situation as I have a C permit to give back. AFAIK de-registering from one place to go and live in another (inside CH) is one of the very few things that is free. Maybe it's the same with de-registering from the country. If it's free to do, chances are greater than you can do it by post (as they don't want you there to pay the cash up front).

I'm planning on returning soon for some skiing so maybe I'll sort the permit thing out then, in person. If I find any info on 'remote-deregistering' though, I'll post it here.

Hi Gav,

Hope the Guiness is still going down well. The process of deregistering is indeed free but the process of registering in the new place of course comes with its hurdles and costs especially if you change canton. Then you begin to wonder whether it is all worth it...
