Moving to Switzerland Post Brexit

Hi,

Just a query I'm hoping someone can help me with. I currently live in the UK with my Swiss fiancé (soon to be wife, following 3 cancelled/rescheduled wedding dates due to Covid).

We plan to move to Switzerland at some point in the future to live and work. My question is, post Brexit am I still able to do this, and what permit would this allow me to receive if I am? I would be a UK national married to a Swiss Citizen.

Thanks in advance for any help.

(Apologies if this Q has already been asked, (I couldnt find anything during my searches.)

If she can support you, can come. A friend of mine brought his Thai wife over and married her here several years ago.

If you want to work though, you'll need a permit. And as a British citizen, you'll be third in the queue behind Swiss, and EU. (Allegedly 2nd in the queue behind Swiss and EU).

Re: Moving to Switzerland Post Brexit

To elaborate

Family reunification permit
If she can support you financially, since you'll be her dependent, then she could apply for a family reunification permit for you. You would be able to work with this permit, bypassing the non-EU hiring criteria requirements, but should the marriage break down and you divorce then any employer would have to apply for a new permit for you under the non-EU criteria.

Requirements would be similar to this for family reunification

Independent permit
To get a permit without family reunification any Swiss employer has to prove they can't find a Swiss/EU national who could do the job before they'd be allowed to hire you. The criteria is outlined here

https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/en/home...zulassung.html

Should the marriage break down later you'd already have a permit of your own.

Re: Moving to Switzerland Post Brexit

Thanks for the swift replies and info. Very much appreciated. Just a further question if I may. Would a permit based on the Family Reunification process equate to a B permit for work purposes?

Yes you’d get a B-permit under family reunification, renewable annually. After 5 years, you can get a C or apply for citizenship.
