Can you renew B permit from home?

Or do you have to go in a government building in person?

Re: Can you renew B permit from home?

Call your gemeinde and ask. They might simply give you a list of documents to send and a form to sign, or they might insist you come in person.

Re: Can you renew B permit from home?

When I renewed mine in December, I was told it had to be done in person.

It took two appointments, first to the Gemeinde office to show paperwork, then to the Migrationsamt - the new B permits have a digital photo and signature which they take there.

The gemeinde made the second appointment for me, about 2 weeks after the first.

Kind regards

Ian

Oh, I'm glad you got it renewed. That's very good news. Is it annual, or for 5 years?

I seem to recall that you posted, some time ago, about possible language requirements for renewal. What happened, in the end? Were you asked to do a test, at all?

Re: Can you renew B permit from home?

Obviously at the moment you'd want to avoid going in person if possible, and I don't see why you should need to, but it's entirely dependent on your local authority how they choose to manage it.

When we renewed our C permits last year they'd put a new protocol in place to avoid any actual face to face contact, everything done by email and post. As already stated, just ask them, there are not blanket rules about it.

Re: Can you renew B permit from home?

Over the years I had a number of 1 year B permits and all of them were done by mail (or me dropping off the documents) except I had to pick up the new and return the old (and pay them).

That continued with the 5 year C permits until we got the biometric version, then they arrived by mail.

5 year renewal. I just sneaked through under the grandfathering rights, so wasn't asked to take a German test. If they'd offered mectge early C, that's when I would have failed...

Kind regards
