Biel / Bienne immigration office. Permit extention.

Hi everyone,

I've applied for transition/extention of permit from B to C in September 2020 at Biel immigration office.
Since then I haven't heard anything from them. My emails was left without answer. And the answer at reception desk is always the same: "it's not ready yet, you need to wait". (Because of corona, the main office is not accessible, and workers at the reception don't seem to be very competent.)

Meanwhile I have no valid permit already since 4 months.
I know I'm not alone who is having this kind of issues with extention of permit in Biel, it seems to be normal for them to ignore people, making them wait for many months.

My questions are:

- Does anyone here had simmilar issues with immigration office in Biel?

- Is there a way to influence them?

Thank you!

Did you have paper permit previously? The move to credit card size biometric ones seems to take longer.

If you donít have a change in your situation, loss of job; marital status change; I wouldnít worry. The offices are all busy and with staff working from home; isolating; quarantining things are taking longer than usual. It isnít just b/b itís just about everywhere.

Re: Biel / Bienne immigration office. Permit extention.

I did have plastic permit ever since I'm in Switzerland.
I've made a research on the Internet and found out, that this kind of delays were usual for Biel immigration office long before corona outbreak.
Of course now they are using corona as an excuse, but it's not the main reason, for the delays, I'm pretty sure.
Thats why I'm asking if someone had experience of influencing such situation with any means like lawyers etc.

What is a lawyer going to do for you? They can't force the Biel permit office to speed up the process or put you at the front of the queue.

Instead of complaining how long it is taking, send a registered letter to ask if there is more documentation or information they need. If you don't already have one, ask for a letter that confirms the new permit is being processed.

Also in this thread you mentioned that your EU spouse had a B permit and you're a non-EU dependent.

Has your wife obtained a C permit now or are you trying for a C independent from her?

Why? You are allowed to continue to live and work here while your permit is being processed. I went almost 18 months in the 90's waiting for one. Sicing a lawyer on them will just make them angry.

Patience

As I told, my emails were left without answer. Calling them is wasting of time as they never pick up the phone. All the suggestions you proposing have already been done. That is why I'm here, looking for not ordinary solutions, or for similar situations. I need a permit in order to travel abroad, because i don't want to pay each time 80 CHF for return visa.

We applied together with my wife, and she got her C permit in couple of weeks.

Use your expired permit. And explain to anyone that asks you are waiting for renewal which is delayed because of Covid.

In certain countries I won't be able to board the plain without having a valid visa/permit of country of my destination.

By the way, after 9.5 month of waiting, I still didn't get my permit.

What actions have you taken to try and move the process forward? Have you tried a registered letter asking if they need more information (I suggested this 6 months ago)? If you can tell us what you've tried we might have other ideas too.
