New language requirements for B-permit renewal (non-EU)

Hi All,

I am looking to renew my B permit that I get through my employer. Am I subject to any language requirements?

I heard some new directives, and I am hearing some conflicting information. Some articles say that it's not applicable for people get permits through their work but only for their dependents.

Also, is it possible to start the process for renewal already? My expiry is in Last week of April.

best regards.

In Zurich you wait until the Canton sends you the paperwork for your renewal, then you take that to your work and get them to sign it.

Before last year you could just walk in to the canton and show them the paperwork and give them some money and they would renew the permit.

Last year because of Covid all was delayed and I had to make an appointment before I dropped off the paperwork, but it was very easy. only 10 minutes in the office and a week later I got my new card.

Re: New language requirements for B-permit renewal (non-EU)

Our Kreisbüro said that we could request it up to 3 months early. We went to the office and they gave us the paperwork in early January (no appointment needed), even though our permits don't expire until the end of March. Otherwise, I believe they'll mail it to you 2 weeks before your permit expires. We also happened to renew early last year, and were very glad that we did, since we were able to take care of everything before COVID hit. It might vary by district.

The link brda sent is really nice - and consistent with my understanding (the language requirement is for the family reunification, not the non-EU B-permit holder themselves).
