My Non EU visa D' Story(Spouse visa)

Good morning Everyone,

I'd like to share our Switzerland immigration story, as I hope it will help someone out there. I understand visa application cases can be pretty relative, depending on country and circumstances. I'm a Nigerian, based in Nigeria. I got married to my amazing wife, a beautiful Irish lady(Nigerian) in 2018.

OUR STORY
In Early 2020, my wife got a notification for job in Switzerland on LinkedIn, and she applied around February/March. She later had interview, and got the job. This all happened before the covid19 pandemic. Fast forward to August, she landed in Switzerland, register and received her permit B which took 4-5 weeks.

I already registered on Duolingo learning Turkish and German since May which later help in proofing my desire to learn the language and we also registered to a language school. After she got her permit , rental contract, work contract , we only have 2 salary slips for Aug and Sept., So we waited till October to Place in the application, but note around Sept, she visited Solothurn county council letting them know her desire to bring her spouse, the council gave her forms and explained all necessary steps to her.

The explanation from the council in the most simplified manner split task into hers and mine with both of us required to sign voluntary verification forms. I started authenticating my documents: Birth certificate (visiting Nat. Population comm.), Marriage certificate registry for certified True copy .

Our Major Issues.
1. When we are asked to provide Civil registration from Ireland, it was though bcos we got married in Nigeria and Irish offices keep saying so far an Irish citizen got legally registered abroad following all foreign marriage registration protocols every thing is fine and Swiss county is saying to marriage must be registered in ireland which is not possible.

SOLUTION: We sent an email to Irish Marriage REGISTRATION Body
asking for how to registered our Marriage in ireland, obviously they replied us with what I said earlier and we printed it as requested proof from Solothurn office )

2. Affidavits- We had to involve our parents in the stressful process of documentation for birth certificate and attestation. One of your parents will need to proof that you're human and they gave birth to you alive and he or she didn't do it alone and only two people are involved(lol). Another is proof of Bachelorhood / splinterhood before marriage date ,as one your parent will also need to proof this.

Basically , I don't need to register my marriage in Swiss bcos my wife isn't swiss national.

From you(Applicant):

o Original Marriage Certificate issued by the Marriage Registry

o Certificate of Birth issued by a National Population Commission (NPC)
=> if the birth has not been registered before the 18th birthday, a “Declaration of Age” (**) and an “Attestation of Birth” have to be provided

o Affidavit of bachelorhood (**), sworn at the High Court or Magistrate Court of your place of residence not older than 6 months
=> as you are already married, the document has to state that you have been a bachelor until …….., when the marriage took place

o Valid Nigerian passport

o Police Character Certificate, issued by the Central Criminal Registry in Lagos not older than 6 months

o Questionnaire for verification of civil status documents

o Application for marriage registration

o Form ‘Voluntary Verification’

o 3 visa application forms

o 4 passport pictures (good quality, white background)

o Proof of language competency (A1) or explanation letter stating that you will join a language school in Switzerland

o NGN 202’000.- fees for verification

(**) Affidavits and Declarations sworn in Benin City, Edo State, have to be issued for international purposes. These documents are signed by the Commissioner of Oaths and the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

From your wife:

o Copy of Irish passport and copy of Swiss Residence Permit

o Copy of certificate of residence

o Copy of certificate of civil status

o Form ‘Voluntary Verification’

MAIN APPLICATION

I sent an email to Swiss Emb. Abuja letting them know I've everything ready early October . I was ask to choose btw 5th and 12th Oct. I choose 12th bcos of my work.
I got there, visited the civil status section and then visa section . Nov.2nd swiss legal representative visited my home to confirm somethings and we didn't hear anything afterward tho we contacted them end of Nov and Early Jan but few days ago my wife checked her mail box found letter and sent another email telling them about this , long story short I've my visa now ready to fly soon.

In total, the whole process took *3months, 3weeks approx 4months.
*
Glory to God.

Thank you for sharing. I'm also in the middle of applying for my spouse's visa, the only other documentation that the immigration office required for me was an insurance offer for my spouse. Has been waiting for 2 months here
