protracted naturalisation. what to do?

hello everyone,

I am a Russian citizen. I've been living in CH for almost 18 years.
I passed a test for naturalization and a B1 German exam in June 2018, in September 2018 I applied for a Swiss passport in Gemeinde Biel (canton Bern). One year later in August 2019 I had an interview in my commune and in October of the same year I got a letter of approval along with some bills to pay. In 2020 February, I got a letter from Bern asking me to re-confirm my employment status which I did. Ever since I have not heard anything from the officials. This makes me worry a bit. I don't know what to think. Is it normal that the process takes so long (2.5 years)? Maybe it is a corona effect?

Any piece of advice is welcome!

Have you checked this thread

Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary

It should give you some idea of how long some other people have been waiting, and possible actions to take.

That's right before covid starting disrupting life. Have you checked with Bern on it's status? Sometimes things slip through the net and end up buried in a drawer. I'd give them a call/e-mail to ask what's happening with it.

Re: protracted naturalisation. what to do?

thank you all for your advices. I just called Öffentliche Sicherheit and you guess what? - my application was approved in June last year but they forgot to inform me about this fact. technically i've been swiss for 9 months by now without even knowing it. I am shocked and relieved at the same time...

If you have the Swiss citizenship you can now apply for the passport:

Assuming they told the departments that need to know. It almost sounds like they told no one. When I got citizenship, I also got a letter from my Gemeinde telling me to bring them a Heimatschein and return my permit.
