| | Naturalized Swiss Pensioner - wants her U. S. adult son as permanent caregiver.
Hello!
The following question was asked of me, but I didn't know the answer. However, I am curious.
“Can a Naturalized Swiss pensioner have her adult son (U. S. citizen, American father) come from the United States to be her caregiver at her home in Switzerland?”
After researching Swiss Family Reunification information, it only specifies children under the age of 21 not “adult” children. So far, I haven’t found any possible answers specific to her situation.
I would greatly appreciate any input and advice from forum members as I pursue an answer.
Thanks one and all!

Have you contacted the relevant authorities for the procedures and application? https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/en/home...ntone_und.html |

Thanks for your quick reply.
Not as yet, only because it would not be for me personally. But I can direct her to contact the authorities herself. I was hoping to find some insights similar to her situation before going to that extent.
I have your link bookmarked. Thanks for your assistance! |

As far as I know, in general, adult children cannot be brought into the country as part of a family reunion. And in general, non-EU carers, nannies, household staff cannot be brought with one's family when immigrating.
Although I cannot back this up by quoting a law, I think that if an application, in this woman's case, were to be approved at all (since the son is non-EU) it would be on humanitarian grounds and then possible only if the mother can fully fund her son, i.e. provide for all of his living costs, guarantee his medical insurance, sign that he will never claim social support from the Swiss government, and if she already has her own accommodation that is large enough to properly house him, too (= each has their own room).

From my research I've found bits and pieces, but you've summed it up nicely. I will advise her accordingly and will recommend that she contact the necessary authorities (via energyale's link).
Again my thanks to EVERYONE.

Well, she can always adopt him, as then he'd be Swiss.

Tom | | | | | Surely you cannot adopt your own children. And even if she could, I don’t believe adopting an adult would give them Swiss nationality.
