Swiss Citizenship: How do you actually apply?

Hello - in just under 2 months, I will have been in Switzerland for 10 years, and intend to apply for citizenship immediately, as per my knowledge I meet all criteria.

However a fairly important question, how do you initiate the application? Presumably by filling in a form?

I checked this place:
https://www.zh.ch/de/migration-integ...uergerung.html

They say you can get the forms from the website or Kreisburo, I can't find the form on the website.

What did other people do who were applying in Zurich (city), were they offered the forms when they renewed their C permit? Did they have to ask for them at the Kreisbüro? Did they find them on the internet?

(I am sure I previously saw these forms on the internet when I did some initial research about 6 months ago, but can't find them now)

thanks in advance

Re: Swiss Citizenship: How do you actually apply?

You have to get them at your local town hall, and you need to ask for them.

That's what I did. I did it early, too, as they also gave me a list of items that I would need to hand in with my application, thus giving me time to gather it all up.

+1 I agree, get the forms now from your commune and begin the process, even though your 10 years may not be up.

You mean a Migros Club card is not the same as a Swiss passport?

In Zurich you can download the forms at https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/portal/...elbsttest.html Download page will open only after you answer a few questions, which should be easy.

Regardless, but it never hurts to visit your local commune so they can put a face to a name. It is all about integration.

FYI, not for the OP, but if you are going for facilitated naturalisation you can get the aplication form from Bern by emailing: ch@sem.admin.ch

This, totally. And also think who will be suitable and best to be your referees, they can make a huge difference. Friend, neighbour, colleague, local association/club leader, etc.

The cop who did my interview was my neighbor, and we mainly chatted about another neighbor.

I could have done this, but I was glad that I went in person. The woman who assisted me was very pleasant (once she got over her disgust that my Swiss husband's German is worse than mine ) and she carefully went over the checklist, crossing off things I didn't need and marking the ones I did need.

thanks, I think that is what I found 6 months ago, I will take a look.

But I will probably also pickup the form from the Kreisburo in order to make myself known and get some tips.

Kreisburo will not be able to help, naturalization is handled by the city of Zurich. You will need to go to the Stadthaus. They will offer tips, but forms you will need to download. Did it recently as well :-)

By the way, someone I know was asked, in her citizenship application interview, to explain how she would look up something about Swiss procedures, online.

Re: Swiss Citizenship: How do you actually apply?

The thread below has a lot of discussions on naturalization and provided valuable information during my own naturalization process.

This. Assuming you have a printer then everything can obviously be done online and from a distance with no need to leave your house and go to government building during a pandemic.
