Re: British national B permit in 2021(post brexit)
Finally, my work permit has been approved after months of waiting and stress! The Geneva cantonal authorities have issued me a B permit (non-EU), tied to my new employer and the canton.
One thing I’ve learnt is that Geneva’s system is different compared to other cantons. I’m sharing it so others and future applicants might find it helpful.
L’OCRIT, the cantonal employment authority, scrutinise my application. They’re the main authorising body for recommending work permits for non-EU citizens. You need a ridiculously amount of patience for that part. Then they forwarded the application to l’OCPM for final checks (which takes around two weeks) before issuing me a B permit. Surprisingly, no SEM/federal checks needed. Geneva has given me a form of travel pass (l’assurance d’autorisation de séjour) instead of going to the Swiss embassy for a visa D or entry permit.
It’s a bit different compared to my last stint in Geneva. The last time was straightforward, but Brexit changes things.
I’m so chuffed! I can’t wait to have a cold pint of Cardinal next to the lake later this October! This forum is pretty useful. So thanks for your tips.
