I was advised today by SERI that they will not look at my professional qualifications because I do not have minimum B2 in a Swiss National Language.


I was wondering if any of the lawyers on our group could tell me if this is permitted/correct by law ?



It's certainly not stated on their website, which is generally vague about language "you may need..." or it's specific to the profession.



I work with small children in my mother-tongue (English) and I am seeking equivalency for a Sozial Pegagogin, which is not a specifically regulated profession.



Here's what the SBFI assessor sent me:

Das Sprachdiplom auf mind. Stufe B2 ist eine Voraussetzung, damit wir Ihr Gesuch für die Anerkennung eines Diploms aus einem Drittstaat überhaupt prüfen können.

If it’s not a regulated profession, why do you need your qualifications assessing by them?

There are different layers... some are very restricted...eg. Teachers and Social Workers. Some need 'equivalency'.


Anyway, I found the legislation and answered my own question. They will hold my application pending B2 certification in a Swiss national language.


It seems that language exemptions exist at the cantonal level.... if your job is specifically in English, so I may be able to find another route.



Off to RAV next week...first request will be a language test...
