How to Complain about CH Embassy?

Hi,
My local Swiss Embassy is not responding to my request to have my adopted child registered in CH. This has been going on for months.

Does anyone know if there is an office in Bern that can handle complaints like mine and get the embassy to finally take action?

Failing that, could I hire a Swiss lawyer to take action?

All ideas gladly accepted!

Are you going there in person with all the documents or sending emails? Have you phoned them to ask? It's very strange that they would "ignore" unless you are not following process.

Are you Swiss? You location says Basel so which Swiss Embassy are you talking about?

A bit more detail might help. Is this the child of your spouse/partner? An international adoption where you're not related to the child at all?

Re: How to Complain about CH Embassy?

Have you tried calling your embassy? Or have you just been emailing.

I have read horror stories on here of Switzerland refusing to recognise foreign adoptions, so I’d be surprised if it is something the Embassy can sort out quickly. Have you tried talking to your Heimatort?

Re: How to Complain about CH Embassy?

It has nothing to do with the 'Embassy'.

Requests for adoption are handled by local authorities in your canton of residence:

https://www.ch.ch/en/adopting-child/

Is this an 'historical' adoption, was the adoption processed in another country ? Is the child actually 'adopted' or are you trying to get the process done. Basically, if the adoption was not done according to swiss law then even if you were able to achieve this 'adoption' in another country, you may need to repeat the process properly again in Switzerland according to Swiss laws.

Why are you asking on an English forum anyway ? You are Swiss so should be accessing the system and information in Switzerland...

Oh, reading your other posts, I'm guessing your Thai wife has a child from a previous relationship ?

Re: How to Complain about CH Embassy?

OP, while it's weird that you don't get any response, adopting has nothing to do with the embassy.

You need to contact the responsible authority of your canton. See the "Adressliste der Zentralen Behörden der Kantone" at the bottom of this page by the federal government.

For BS the Zentrale Behörde is

Erziehungsdepartement des Kanton Basel-Stadt
Zentrale Behörde Adoption, Haager Kindes- und Erwachsenenschutzübereinkommen
Leimenstrasse 1
Postfach
4001 Basel
Telefon 061 267 68 12 (vormittags)
E-Mail adoption@bs.ch

I'm guessing from context and other posts that the OP is actually in Thailand at the moment.

Someone's location, especially for holidays, is distinct from residence. AFAIK you dont' get ErgänzungsLeistungen to supplement AHV/AVS unless you're registered in CH.

Hi,

If I am receiving AHV EL Ergänzungsleistungen (Extended benefits) how long can I be out of CH for a holiday? Is your presence controlled by anyone?
Thanks much!

Yes. If you are registered in CH, you are supposed to be living here and follow the procedure given by other members.

If he were registered in Thailand, then no EL ... so which one is it?

Unless you are Swiss, as OP seems to be, in which case it's your "place of origin".

Yes, that is the case.
I am asking on this Forum as the Swiss official information is useless. I need a route to complain about the embassy, not information on adoption.Thanks.

Again which embassy and have you been in person or called?

I cannot think of any routes to "complain" about an embassy and would call them to understand what is happening.

Well, you could start with Ignazio.

Follow the links on that page for Consular Directorate.

If you give incomplete information, one can only guess. If you want a complete answer, either give the relevant information or hire a lawyer (and come back to Switzerland, for several reasons).

Re: How to Complain about CH Embassy?

How can you complain about the Embassy, when that is NOT THEIR TERRITORY!

What is there to complain about?

They have NOTHING to do with this, you NEED to directly contact YOUR PLACE OF ORIGIN!

????? We are busy trying to help you when you give incomplete info and ask random questions. Some members ever tried to triangulate your info to understand what the heck you are talking about.....

Goodbye then!
