I had a L permit from January 2016 to September 2016, which was then renewed for a B permit due to my work contract being made permanent after a few months.
I made redundant in May 2017. During that time, I was also registered with social welfare because my salary was very low and was a single mom of 2.
I was registered at the job center (chomage) until September 2019, when I found a new job with a permanent contract. While this time, I was getting supplementary benefits (prestations complémentaires famille).
I was just made redundant and my contract will be ending on June 30th.

My B permit is only valid until September 29th 2021.
Will it be renewed if I am unemployed?
My daughter is 10, was born in London and is a British citizen. She has been going to school here since she was 5. She has a B permit.
My son is 4, was born in Switzerland and is a Swiss citizen (his dad is Swiss and lives in Switzerland too. We have a shared parental authority and he sees him every week). He will be starting school in August 2021.
I still live on my own with both of them.

Could I possibly apply for a C permit?
Or can I at least get another B permit of 5 years?
Has anybody else had the same issue?

Obviously, I am hoping to find a new job before the end of September but I am trying to think of every (worst) scenario possible so I can be prepared, and also eventually prepare my kids to leave Switzerland if we have no other choice...

first of all, I wish you can find a new job soon

I know in some cantons you need to be employed at the time of the renewal, but I don't see that clause for Vaud/Lausanne:

actually there is an explicit clause regarding people subject to financial aid.
If I'm not mistaken, it looks like you have at least the possibility to renew your B...
The website above says it's up to you to request the extension.
