Register at the local municipality while in quarantine

My first workday in Zürich will be on June 1st. I will travel to Zürich from a risk country on May 24th, and don't have the possibility to travel earlier.

Based on the current rules I have to spend at least 7 days in quarantine, but my employer wants me to register at the local municipality (Gemeinde) before my first workday.

If I understand the quarantine rules well I don't have the possibility to register before I start the quarantine, because I have to go into quarantine immediately. The first day of my quarantine will start on May 25, and I'm allowed to leave it only after my 7th day which is on June 1st.

Do you have any tips/recommendations to solve this issue?

Re: Register at the local municipality while in quarantine

You know quarantine is 10 days right? They might let you leave early if you pass a Covid test on day 7 - but you have to submit result and wait for permission. So in your case you can’t take the test until the 31st, then you have to wait for a negative result and permission to end quarantine. Pushing it to be released for 1st even without the registering with Gemeinde issue!

"Important: The quarantine can only be lifted by the Service of the Cantonal Chief Medical Officer (COVID-19 Contact Tracing), which will check your details and your test result. Your quarantine is only lifted when you have received the corresponding confirmation by e-mail.
Until the actual expiry of the quarantine (10th day), you must wear a hygiene mask at all times and keep a distance of 1.5 metres from other people."

Are you EU or Non-EU? That makes a difference to the registering process.

Re: Register at the local municipality while in quarantine

Well, since you can't go to work until you come out of quarantine you may not be starting work on the 1st June.

What is usually suggested is that you register with the gemeinde before going into the office on your first work day. Go down there first thing when they open and get it done then go into work.

Re: Register at the local municipality while in quarantine

I can start working from home. It wouldn't be a problem if I'm still in quarantine. The only issue is the registration.

You might just have to start work an hour late then (if you are released). If you are at the Gemeinde when they open with all the correct documents then it should only take 5 minutes. Maybe you can do it via email though... contact them and ask.

Welcome to the Forum, and soon to Zurich.

Here's the official instructional video (scroll down for the written text in German and English) for arriving from abroad.
https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/content...den/zuzug.html

It says that most things are done online, now, although those moving to Zurich from abroad should come in to see someone at the counter, but not before having phoned to make an appointment.

Here is a link with the phone number, where you could make your enquiry, about how best to manage the dates:

Re: Register at the local municipality while in quarantine

Hi OP,
How did it go? Have you made it into Switzerland? Could you please share, for others who might be in the same situation, what were you told by the municipality, and how you have already, or will be able to, do your registration?

Hi doropfiz,

I was lucky and my country was removed from the list before my arrival. Sorry for the late reply.
