I am wondering if anyone has experience or knows if I can import my personal belongings into Switzerland in advance before actually moving there. Reading the FAQ of the Federal Customs Administrations leads me to believe that it should be possible.


Here is my situation. I am a EU national (Slovenia) currently living in Germany. I signed a contract for work in Switzerland and I will be moving there in the end of August. I plan to leave Germany in the beginning of July (I plan to visit my family in the time in between). I was planning on transporting my belongings to Switzerland in the beginning of July by car (rental, no car being imported) and put them in a storage box. At that time I could show my contract and probably a document of deregistration of my German address. Looking at the 18.44 document it is also mentioning a proof of a house/flat purchase/rent. I won't have that at the time as I will be actually moving to Switzerland more than a month later.

Yes, you have 6 months to provide the necessary documentation. You'll have to provide a monetary deposit (probably an amount proportionate to the goods' value) when you import your household goods. The deposit (minus some fee) will be returned to you when you provide the documentation.

Make sure your rental company is Ok with you taking the car abroad, and do have proof of their consent on you when you do.

I hope you mean deposit for taxes and not full value of goods?!
