Hi folks,
I've got a quick update and follow-up question.
Brief recap: My wife is a non-EU citizen and has accepted a job offer to work for 4 years as a postdoc in Zürich. Our two children and I are all EU citizens and will be coming with her.

| EU nationals always have the right to come to Switzerland, regardless of family circumstances. While your wife will need a Type D visa to enter Switzerland for more than the 90 day tourist limit, neither you or the children will need them. You can enter with her without problems. And you can certainly apply for the family reunification permits at the same time as hers is applied for, in fact it would be better to do so. If she takes up the job offer she should ask the university to apply for these along with her application. The embassy/consulate would just not bother with the Type D's for you and the kids once the permits are approved. | |

| We got a response from the HR person at the Institut where my wife will be working within the university, and it sounds like they're on board with exactly this procedure. It's great to have it confirmed. | |

Today, the HR person at the Institut informed us that they have not in fact done what they said they would do and what we explicitly asked them to do. They submitted just my wife's permit application without including the permit applications for our kids or for me. Their reasoning was that including our family reunification permit applications would make my wife's application take too long and that applying for the family reunification permits is unnecessary because the three of us (all but my wife) have EU citizenships anyway. The HR person didn't ask us if this would be all right, and she didn't ask us what our thoughts were; she just went ahead and did the opposite of what she had said she would do.
So, my question is this: What are the consequences of the fact that my wife's employer has not submitted our family reunification permit applications along with the application for my wife's work permit?
Thank you again for your collective knowledge and your helpfulness!!!
Sincerely,
