non-eu internship

Hello, I am a non-eu national studying in Switzerland on B permit. recently got a long term internship offer from a company in zürich. I will probably take a semester leave for this internship. In this case, does the company have to get me a new one like L permit dependent on this position? oh, the internship is not mandatory in my programme. in this case, will it not work with the labour office?

thank you in advance for your advice.

Re: non-eu internship

I guess so - ask the 'employer' to phone the work permit authority to ask....

And don't quit anything until you have it worked out...

Re: non-eu internship

If the internship is not mandatory, I don't see how you'd secure a different permit to just work and not study.

There are rules employers have to follow in order to hire non-EU citizens. Given that you're still studying, it could be mighty hard to prove you're the best candidate and that there's no Swiss or EU that could be found to do the job.

Re: non-eu internship

The company offering you the internship will need to apply at AWA to get you the permission to work. It’s not a new permit, just a permission to work at the company for a specific time. During that time you will continue to have your B student permit.

However one of the key criteria is that the internship is a mandatory part of your study program and you will need to submit a confirmation from your university to AWA. Are you able to discuss with the university and see if they could offer you such a letter. Some professors are flexible if the internship will give you a good practical insight.

My own experience is that AWA will not approve the permission if the internship is not mandatory. In any event, good luck.
