"QuickZoll" - Swiss Customs Clearance App

The Swiss Federal Customs Administration is offering a smartphone app "QuickZoll" for customs clearance by private individuals. The advantage is that it allows customs clearance without having to deal with a customs official when bringing in more than CHF 300 of personal purchases.

QuickZoll is available in the Swiss languages and English. More information is at these links (English):

Re: "QuickZoll" - Swiss Customs Clearance App

It's a pretty handy app, but be aware of a couple of caveats:
- the app does not allow you to specify which goods have reduced VAT. So all food and stuff will be taxed at 7.7% instead of the 2.5% that you should pay (and will pay if you stop at the border for example). The difference might be small or large, you can see it as a fee for hassle-free transit
- you have to specify quite a small time window for when your payment is valid (2h if I remember correctly, but might be wrong). So I'd advise to use the app only when you are somewhat close to the border. E.g. don't pay before starting a 5h drive - some unexpected traffic, and you will have to pay the same amount another time
