The below is a translation of Swiss law governing compulsory military service. Please note the highlighted lines:

(Art. 3 para. 1 and 2, Art. 4 para. 2 ML)

Training Command (Kdo Ausb) for military service.
2 The Kdo Ausb shall accept the registration if:
a. the person enrolled:
1. can complete the enlistment by the end of the year in which he or she
reaches the age of 24, 2

3. has submitted the documents required for personal identification and the
medical questionnaire, and
4. has not already performed military service for any other state; subject to other
other regulations in state treaties remain reserved; b. in the case of the registered person:

c. there is a need on the part of the armed forces.

Under the U.S.-Swiss Treaty of 1937 regarding military obligations for dual citizens, it might be possible to avoid paying a military service exemption tax to Switzerland (German):

Re: Military Service for Dual Citizen who only speaks English

Every Swiss male child is born citizen and soldier.
If you are exempt from military service for whatever reason and cannot do civil service, you’ll be taxed approximately 3% of your annual salary each year.
The minimum amount of tax is 400 CHF a year for those with no income.
If you leave Switzerland there’s a minimum charge of 3x400 CHF to cover 3 years of absence (could be 4 can’t remember exactly).
And if I remember correctly, when you return they ask for the amount of your earnings abroad earned during your absence as to evaluate the tax.

If you are able to do your military service you will not have any problems at work or anywhere due to your absence. Military service is common and expected so your employer won’t blink an eye.

I've been in Switzerland for 6 months now.

Actually took a German course a few years ago in Bern, but frankly I just don't like how the language sounds. It feels very unfriendly/cold, and it's relatively hard to express yourself when compared to English. Anytime I hear a woman speaking with a German accent, it's an immediate turn off

When I can muster up the motivation, I'll take a jab learning French. There's a tradition among the international school crowd that a true gentlemen has a mastery of both English and French.
True gentleman does not diss a woman for her mother tongue

Do the army service. You get skills, friends and save money.

Don’t understand the comment on how OP would be saving money quite the contrary. As a recruit without children, maximum loss of earning insurance is 62.– plus 4.– cash per day. Pretty sure it’s less than what OP earns now.

How long are they in for? The short term loss vs 15 years at 2-3% tax could be a significant chunk as well.

It is 3% of direct federal taxable income for maximum 11 years or until 37 years old so depending on age of OP it’s not that bad. The total amount is reduced by 4% for every day served in civil protection.

Recruit school is 18 weeks although you get promoted to soldier in between (+1.– every day).

During WK one gets 80% of salary but maximum 196.– per day plus the 5.– cash.

With this in mind, is it wiser to take the 3% tax or attempt to serve at poverty wages? I'm in a management position, and a huge gap like this would severely damage my ability to move up the chain of command.

Move to French speaking Switzerland then.

Your comment makes you seem like spoilt brat. If youn want to get on here, you have to make an effort. "I don't like the way the language sounds" is pathetic. Grow up.

Re: Military Service for Dual Citizen who only speaks English

OP you say you are 24 but are in a management position, only explanation I can think of is IB. Even though you are constitutionally protected from termination whilst on service, it is an absolute pain for employers to have their teams disappear for 18 weeks + 3 weeks/year thenon. Negotiate with your employer to have them pay the tax (in some cases they do).

For everyone else: OP is a Swiss citizen and can do whatever they want in their own country including ‘not making an effort’ if they so please.

Completely wrong.
Swiss banks and other Swiss industries value their Swiss employees who fulfill their military duty.
If you are healthy and able and you try to get out of it, it will be very frowned upon.

Anyway the choice isn’t really yours.
If they consider you apt, you’ll be obliged to go, it’s a obligatory duty not a choice.
If you are 1/2 Swiss, I can’t imagine why your Swiss parent didn’t explain this to you before you moved here.
It’s common knowledge.
That’s why I explained that Swiss male children are born citzens and soldiers.

Note your own military wording «chain of command»

Doesn't matter.

They wanted to put me in PC, two weeks before I was due to retire from the requirement.

My employer had a 'word'.

End of.
