Hiring a nanny who is on B-Permit (non-EU)

Hello everyone,

We live in Thalwil, ZH. We're US nationals, on B-Permit.

We are talking to a nanny who already lives in Switzerland and is on B-Permit. She used to be on L-Permit, but then after 2 years, she just received her B-Permit. She lives in Basel Land. She is Turkish. She came to Switzerland as a nanny, along with the Turkish family who moved to CH from Turkey 2.5 years ago. If we hire her, we will give her a private room in our house, and she'll live with us.

Here are my questions:
1- On B-Permit, is she allowed to move to ZH from BL for work?

2- We are still negotiating, but we're considering hiring her at "50% capacity", for when my daughters are back from school. We've made an offer of gross payment of 2400 CHF/mo. Would this cause an issue at permit renewal time for her? Does she need to be making "more" so that she can renew her permit?

3- If (1) and (2) work out, I think all I need to do is to:

- Sign a contract,
- Go to our Gemeinde with her for registration,
- Update her Pension, AHV, tax, etc.. information from her previous employer to us.

We have a friend who employs a nanny under very similar terms, but that lady is Bulgarian, so I wasn't sure if our nanny would have special terms since she's not an EU citizen.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Re: Hiring a nanny who is on B-Permit (non-EU)

I would check with her whether her permit it tied to her current job. Non-EU national permits are usually only for a specific job/role and when that ends so does the permit, even if it still has time on it. If so, then you'd need to apply for a new permit for her with no guarantees you'll get one.

Have a look at the links here for what's expected in your canton, assuming you're in one of these.

Re: Hiring a nanny who is on B-Permit (non-EU)

This is helpful, thank you!

Question: How do I confirm if their B-Permit is tied specifically to their employer? Is that something that writes on the permit card itself?

Try contacting the https://www.swissnanny.org/ . Someone there can probably give you advice, rather than speculation. And please report back .

Or these guys https://quitt.ch/en/ who seem more related to employers of nannies.
