Exactly, the document will be read and reviewed by a minion I bet without even proper education. Definitely overthinking. Put whatever they want to hear and be done with it.

Re: Why do i want to be Swiss?

But they will be looking for consistency. They will ask you, again, why you want to become Swiss. So don’t wing this one. It doesn’t have to be exciting, in fact boring is good.

Re: Why do i want to be Swiss?

I may be a little bit naive but I what I have done is just to go for honesty. The answers don’t have to be perfectly polished but they should be sincere. Prior to the application you no doubt weighted the pros and cons, preparing for a long, long process, and if you explain the motivations behind the decision to start the marathon, it should be fine. IMHO.

You make a good point. What do they want to hear is the question!

This is quite an ignorant comment.
Yes, your application will first be reviewed by an entry-level government worker whose job is to simply check if you submitted all docs and see if you meet the residency criteria. After that it goes up the chain. We were interviewed by 2 Gemeinderats and they had our dossier in front of them. The first 2 questions were straight out of the dossier.

As others said, be sincere and honest... and if you can't, then at least be consistent.

Re: Why do i want to be Swiss?

We were interviewed by the syndic, two of the municipal and the chairwoman of the immigration committee.

Yes, they do take it seriously.

When were you naturalised? In recent years the process has been streamlined. It could be different now.

Obviously, different Cantons have different approaches. Following submission and acceptance of the application, where I live currently has a committee from the Einwohnersrat interview you on Swiss and local geography, history and politics. A person from the Canton interviews you concerning integration.

Then there's an Einwohnerratversammlung, where there's a public show of hands whether to accept your application or not. It's pretty much a formality, since the Einwohnerrat recommend the acceptance.

Once that's done, you wait for the notification. Which comes with ten days to appeal even when you're successful.

That's it.

We are a very small village and no, the neighbours don't get a vote. (Nor do they vote in GE where the OP is from)
