Study B permit enquiry

Hello everyone,
As a non eu student moving from one canton to another. I registered in my new canton few months ago and they said a new permit would be sent. After few weeks of waiting, I was told my permit from my previous canton is still valid and they would not have to send a new permit. Is this through and anyone with a similar experience?
