Visa and Permit Help and Timelines

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by all the information, some of it contradicting on when to do what, what documents to bring with, when I need rental agreement etc and it seems to differ a little from canton to canton.

So my situation is that I'm an Italian passport holder and I've accepted a job offer in Zürich starting 01.12.2021. The position is permanent with a 3 month probation period. The plan is to move to Switzerland with my family. My wife is a South African with a german residence permit and my son is also an Italian passport holder. We don't have an apartment yet and we're thinking of getting an Airbnb for the first 3 months. We're also thinking of living canton Aargau

I'm trying to figure out the order of things, how long a particular task takes, what documents we might need. Is this the way to do it:

1. I should go to Switzerland and apply for a B Permit ASAP. How long does this take and what documents do I need.

2. My wife should go the Swiss embassy here in Germany and apply for a D visa as soon as I get my permit.

3. We find a place to stay, in this case Airbnb and ask for a rental contract.

4. My wife and son apply for the Family Reunification Permits?

5. We go to the local municipality to register

Someone I spoke to also said we will need police clearance certificates and a recently issued marriage certificate?

We've been living in Germany for the past two years and in South Africa prior to that. If we need a police clearance certificate, will just a German one do, or do we need one from South Africa as well?

TIA

Re: Visa and Permit Help and Timelines

In case you haven't already discovered the umbrella website www.ch.ch, I can recommend it. It sets out the procedures for many aspects of life, and becomes narrower and more specific as it branches, often leading to the law or appropriate government department.

Here, for example:
https://www.ch.ch/en/family-reunification-eu-efta/

And here's the process if you're moving to Zurich, including a list of the documents you will need.
https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/prd/de/...den/zuzug.html
It will be similar, but different, in other municipalities or cantons.

Here's a related thread:
https://www.englishforum.ch/permits-...-together.html

This seems like quite a comprehensive guide:
https://www.expatica.com/ch/moving/v...tizens-443220/
including a section called: "Relatives and partners of EU/EFTA citizens"
https://www.expatica.com/ch/moving/v...220/#relatives

Also, have a look here (official government information)
https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/en/home...hweiz/faq.html
and scroll down to "Family Reunification".
There, you will find a link to the separate pdf called "Family Reunification" which outlines the procedure and documents, in detail.

Re: Visa and Permit Help and Timelines

Thanks, I reached out the home affairs department in Aargau and asked what we need and how long it takes.

Good. Could you please share, for the benefit of others facing the same sort of questions, what you were told? Thanks.
