Moving Canton with EU B Permit

Hi,

I have a EG/EFTA 5 year B permit and am moving from BL to BS. I understand that with the free movement of persons agreements I can move without "asking permission" of either BL or BS or getting my company to apply for a new residence permit but I do have to de-register and re-register (presume permit will change with change of address).

My question is how much notice should you give to the Canton you are leaving? - I have been able to find out that I will need to register within 8 days of arriving in the new Canton (BS) and that I need to inform the old Canton (BL) I am leaving but can't find a timescale for this.

Also can anyone with experience of moving Canton say how difficult the process of de-registering and re-registering is?

Thanks,

Iain

Re: Moving Canton with EU B Permit

Hi there,
just wondering if you ever got any information regarding this thread?
We are about to move cantons. We are applying for our B permits (from L permits) in our current canton. However,mI was unsure if then we'd have to reapply/pay for new B permits when we move to our new canton?
Many Thanks

assuming you are Eu'ers:

tell your current canton you plan to move soon, if it is within a month (or 3?) they might just extend your L permits to cover that. when you arrive in your new canton register for B permits with the L permit as proof you are in the system. There will be some admin overhead at least, the option above will probably be the cheapest, but only 20 or 60CHF.

If you get your B permit for your current canton you still have to de-register from there and then register in the new canton. and i'm pretty sure will have to pay twice then for the B permit, 60--100CHF

Try the first option, how you prove convince them i'm not sure, but its worth a try.

if you are not EU'ers then that's a different story.

Re: Moving Canton with EU B Permit

In Bern you can deregister at the latest ON the day that you leave.
I did this, I deregistered, and because my permit (EU) was expiring on the same day, I did not have to pay anything in the old commune.

But like they said, I would ask, if you know in advance, and hope they will reissue the permit without a change of address fee.

Re: Moving Canton with EU B Permit

We changed our B-permits to C-permits (for a fee), then a month later deregistered (just dropped into Gemeinde offices, and said - we're leaving today), and went over to our new Germeinde the next day, and registered (for a fee). That was within BL.
