Resident visa for father

I am a Non-EU citizen and I have been working in Switzerland for last two years. Initially I had permit L but now I have permit B. Recently my mother in my home country passed away. My father who is permanently blind, is now alone in my home country. His age is 62 years.

Being the only son, I need to take care my father. I want to check if there is any possibility for my father to live with me in Swiss?

I have been able to find some temporary arrangements for my father in my home country, so I got couple of months to arrange visa.

My family (my wife and child) already have dependent B.

Thanks in advance for help and guidance

Re: Resident visa for father

Best to address your question direct to the immigration authorities - i would suggest the Swiss embassy in the home country where your father is living...because they would have the most recent experience of people in similar situations, and because they are usually more sympathetic and less overworked than the 'main office' in Switzerland...

Re: Resident visa for father

Yes, I have noticed everyone just uses the expression 'embassy' rather than 'consulate general' - in Australia we have the Swiss 'Embassy' in Canberra, and a consulate general in each capital city...

Hmm...consulate general...

Eu nationals who hold a B permit can bring in their parents in as dependents as long as they agree and are able to financially support them. There is no equivalent automatic right for NON EU citizen B permit holders so you would have to apply to your canton for a dependent parent visa and approval would be at their discretion.

Yes, it is possible. I know of someone who succeeded, but he had C permit. B-permit is more difficult.

You must convince the pertinent cantonal migration department. Of course, you must guarantee all expenses and your father must renounce any claims on Swiss state pensions, etc.
