Switching from an L permit for work to a student visa

Hello all.

I have been working for almost two years in Switzerland on an L permit. This is about to come to the end, as the permit is expiring and it might not be renewed. So I will be returning to the US soon (which isn't so bad, really).

However, before I go back, I would like to spend several months (about 6)in school here (meaning Switzerland) adding to my professional skill set and improving my German. I want this education process to start after my current work permit ends (sometime in April). I have no intention to work during these 6 months of schooling and can demonstrate the availability of funds to support me during this period.

So, what I would like to know is this: Is it possible to obtain a 6 month student visa after my current L permit expires? If so, how? How can I find out what schools are considered legitimate for student visas? Etc.

All responses greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
