If I were you I'd just stay quiet about living abroad. I did the same thing a few years ago when I lived in Switzerland. Gave my parent's address and got my passport 4 hours late.
Cheers - that's precisely what I'm planning to do. Thanks all for the advice.

Re: UK Passport renewal

But I think its easy for HMPO to check your place of residency based on NI/Tax contributions.

The address given for a passport appointment is irrelevant, it's where your staying on the day you have the appointment to get your passport in person, nothing to do with where you live.

Page 4. Current Address - says `Where you live`.

However I believe this isn`t the form for `Same day delivery` service.

If the passport is sent by post it needs to go to where you can receive it, if your live abroad & are collecting a passport in person after an appointment its where your staying.

Re: UK Passport renewal

So did the one-day renewal with no problem whatsoever.

I put my UK address down (parents home) but the mobile number etc. was Swiss. The guy asked me and I said "I live and work in Switzerland". His response was a shrug of the shoulders and simply "Ok just put that in the notes section to explain why you have a UK mobile number".

So it feels more like they've completely not accounted for people who live abroad but may visit the UK to use the 4-hour service more than anything.

Not sure it has any relevance to NI/HMOP etc. your nationality isn't connected to your residency...

Excellent overall, 120 quid is a bargain to have that all taken care of in a few hours....also the guy's response to the Swiss thing made me feel like I'm not the first he's encountered.

Cheers - must be some small print somewhere that I missed as on the form itself it clearly says 'where you live' and asked for a UK address.

Renewing English Passport

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with advice
my friend who lives here needs to renew her English passport, she doesn't have any other passport etc
she's been told that in order to renew it she has to send in her old one and it will take 4 to 6 weeks for her to get a new passport, does it make sense that she would be left with no form of travel permit for this amount of time?

Re: Renewing English Passport

They recently invented that nifty thing called photocopy. Officials will typically accept that on the spot, especially if it shows the expiration date.

Airlines are likely to be the exception, not that they're officials to begin with.

Re: Renewing English Passport

Great, I'll tell her
she does need to fly in that time period, that's why she's concerned.
And if she sends it in when she returns she's scared she won't have it back in time for her next trip which is a month later.

Search and you will be rewarded:

Most important, make sure the photos comply with the requirements.

Mine took 17 days door to door.

I'm sending mine today. Let's see if they will accept everything and how many days it will take to get it renewed.

Her safest option would be to get everything together before her trip and then fill in the online form and send it all off immediately when she gets back.
A month should be plenty of time to get the new one back as long as the photos and documents are acceptable.

She shouldn’t fly without a valid passport.

Re: UK Passport renewal

Hi Guys,

I recently sent the application for the renewal of my BNO passport. I just have it because of my mother who was born and raised in Hong Kong.
Now they sent me an additional sheet that I need to fill-in, but there is one question I don't know how to answer I asked them how I should and they basically just said to fill-in the form to the best of my understanding.

Declaration
I, the undersigned declare that:

I am / am not a Chinese national.

The fact that I have the Hong Kong permanent ID Card, makes me a Chinese national?! If that matters, I also have Swiss citizenship.

Thanks for your help.

No. It just means that you are (were?) a permanent resident.

However, since China does not recognise dual nationality and as soon as you acquire another nationality you cease to be a Chinese national, I guess you should answer no?

I agree with NaT to check no. This UK link and the first reply to the second link seem to confirm you were never a Chinese citizen.

Re: UK Passport renewal

Thanks for your answersand links. I changed their statement into something like: I am holder of HK permanent ID card

If they want to revoke that passport, it's fine...I tried to renew it just because I thought it's always good to have a plan B in case of emergencies.
