Re: UK Passport renewal

reminder for UK Passport holders to check end date.

At present time not able to book premium/ fast track service in person and read a story, no idea if true, some are now waiting 3 months

This may be different for people in Switzerland. I'm resident in the UK now. Got the Wife's passport renewed recently and it took about 2 weeks.

Wasn't the blue/black one yet though!

Luckily I still have 2 years to run on mines, but I'm applying for an Irish one shortly.

Re: UK Passport renewal

Anyone else recently sent their passport back to the UK for renewal? If so, how did you send it? I was at the Post yesterday to send mine, asked for the fastest most secure method. I was told A Post registered is taking some time to get to the UK (and they can't guarantee it will get there!) - she offered my a "Privat Courier" service for 81.00 chufs - but then she read that they won't take passports for delivery (and even she didn't know why)

Before I call DHL etc, I thought I'd ask here

PS - would also be interested in how long it might take to get a new one back here.

I always have done the 4 hour renewal in person as I travel regularly. Assuming quarantine gets lifted it's probably worth a day trip to London.

Edit I see it's temporally unavailable

Re: UK Passport renewal

In the end I headed to Glattbruck to the FedEx depot and paid 85.00 chufs for next day delivery. That was 3 weeks ago.

The last 2 weeks I was getting emails from the passport office saying they couldn't proceed with my application until they had received my old one. I finally got hold of someone on the telephone who told me that they are 3 weeks behind just opening envelopes.

Just now I got an email that they have now opened it and my application can proceed, but no indication how long that will take.

I think most of the delay is in waiting for them to actually open the envelope.

Once they start, and provided there is no special difficulty and they are satisfied with your paperwork, they're typically done within a day ot two.

My experience at least.

Meanwhile, passport renewals are taking slightly less time, but still upwards of three weeks, with an average of 28 days for a child's renewal and 23 days for an adultís renewal

Re: UK Passport renewal

I also just sent my passport renewal application around a week or two ago.

I check this website regularly to get an idea of how long it's gonna take: https://www.passportwaitingtime.co.uk

Hope this helps!

Yup, it took just under 3 weeks before they even opened my envelope. There's a tracking service from them, at the moment it still says that they are checking my application. Another friend here in ZH told me it took about 7 weeks in total to get his back.

It's a mixture. Mrs Porsch got a maroon one at the end of June.

Re: UK Passport renewal

Supposed to have been blue from March this year.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/51631146

Maybe they decided to use the old stock of burgundy ones up.

Mind you looking that the pictures there the UK one looks black, not blue.

We've been sending post (letters and documents) to and from the UK and Netherlands. 2 - 3 days max by normal post. Was amazed a letter posted in London Friday night, arrived here Monday morning.

I find things going from Basel to London get there really quickly, but anything for Scotland takes 5 days at the moment.
