UK Passport renewal

I checked the passport thread but they were old so though I would ask:

My UK passport is up for renewal in March, has anyone renewed recently, and what is the most efficient method.

Thanks in anticipation.

Re: UK Passport renewal

From Jan 2009, renewals will be handled in Paris that is what this site says.

So the turn-a-round time isn't what the link indicates, and they relieve you of €137 to boot . I wonder if a jolly back to Blighty might be a better option.

The delay is probably because you got caught up in the vacations and the transfer of ops to Paris over year end. In my experience usually it's pretty efficient and much quicker than the UK. Inevitably though, would expect consolidation to make it less efficient.

And now the French are involved expect stylish chaos, lots of shrugging, and truffle coloured passports. Seems that there is no benefit to a Blighty dash, so my passport is France bound.

Thanks for the responses

Re: UK Passport renewal

If you are thinking about a Jolly back to Blighty, if you get to a UK passport office for opening time they will process your application the same day. I did mine mid-2008 and went to the Peterborough office and it was all done by 1pm.

Re: UK Passport renewal

Following the decision to close the Passport Renewal facilities in Geneva, there is a 10 Downing Street Petition to reinstate. Please would you sign it. Just Click
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/legalrights/

The reinstatement of this facility will probably affect a majority of the members of this Forum at some time. Does anyone know how to get this request to ALL the members of the Forum.

And, to ask every member of the Forum to ask everyone they know to sign as well?

With the palatial UK embassy in Geneva, one would imagine that this small facility would not be too much to ask, instead of Swiss ex-pats having to travel to Paris. This causes incredible expense and inconvenience, particularly for the elderly.

Great idea and fully back it but I'm a bit confused over the wording:

Quote:
Passport renewal facilities have recently been withdrawn by the British Foreign office in Switzerland forcing Brits resident in Switzerland and surrounding France to refer to Paris! This is seen as a blackmailing tactic to force Britain into the EU! To disprove this believe, we petition Gordon Brown to re-open passport renewal facilities in Geneva thus enabling British citizens to renew their passports without the hassle of referring to Paris. Switzerland appears to be the only European country without such facilities.
Should read Switzerland?

Re: UK Passport renewal

Just seen on the link below that there are 700K British passports issued in Switzerland every year. That is an incredible figure.

http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/downl...eptember08.pdf

With the exchange rate at the moment, it is almost cheaper to go to the UK and that would pay for a cheap flight.

A friend in Holland just told me around Christmas that they have to now go to Paris. Just checked Paris it is...
I quote "UK passport services in the Netherlands are provided by the Switzerland-Benelux-France Passport Service based at the British Consulate General in Paris."

Re: UK Passport renewal

Looking at the payment methods - if you've not a credit card, your stuffed.

I've signed the petition - I'm seriously dischuffed about this. Especially since my electoral registration arrived while on vacation and I missed the deadline for registering, so have to go through the whole process, with witnesses etc., again, just to be able to vote, and, apparently, after 15 years, I lose my entitlement completely. OTOH, no representation without taxation...
