Swiss permit for EU Resident (non EU passport)

Hi everyone

I've been reading a lot of the notes on obtaining Swiss residence permits. My husband and myself have recently become permanent residents of Malta which fall into the EU 17 group. However, we are still on South African passports. His company is based in Switzerland and we would like to move between the two.
Would the same rules apply to us as EU members now, or are our passports (non EU) still the problem to get residency?

My educated guess... No. You are only residents on Malta. Passports will
be required to register here... thus South African applies here.

My husband has a New Zealand passport with a UK visa. The UK visa doesn't make a difference. He's still treated as a non-EU person.

As Switzerland is in the Schengen area, you do not need to have a visa for short visits; however if you like to live here (residence), you need to have a recidence permis as a non-EU citizen.
