Tourist visa for a Non EU friend

Hi everybody,

My friend has done his Masters in History from India. He is very interested in European History and wants to pursue further studies. Besides, he also wants break. So I am inviting him to Switzerland for ten weeks so that he can visit places of historical interest, look at what different universities has to offer, etc.

I know the visa requirements. But I have a few specific questions:-

I can give him a letter of invite and also undertake to cover all his expenses when he is in Switzerland.

He can stay with me as I am authorised to have one more person in my flat where i live alone.

But will the Swiss embassy in India, grant him visa for such a long time and will they consider my undertaking given that we are friends not relatives?

I know there is no definite yes or no answer, i just want to hear from people who had invited their friends over for more than two months on a tourist visa and want them to share their experience with me.

Thank you.

Re: Tourist visa for a Non EU friend

Hi,
It is possible to do this. You send out an invite to your friend adressed to the Swiss Embassy in India. Upto 3 months should not be a problem. But you need to provide documentation to prove that you are able to financially support him during his stay. And like you stated there is no yes or no answer, it depends on the Visa officer in the embassy. I had a friend who invited his friend and it went through without a problem.

Best of luck for you and your friend.
