My visa is type D, can I go to Austria with this visa?

Valid for: Suisse
Visa type: D
# of entries: 1
Remarks: Raisons Familiales

I will come March 18 to Switzerland to live with my fiance and get married.

My brother-inlaw's (to be) girlfriend is inviting us to their place. They live in Austria.

I know they have schengen now, but I only got single entry visa. I am abit worried my visa is limited to Switzerland only.

Thanks in advanced for those who can give information.

If they live in Austria and they are inviting you to go to Austria, why did you get a Swiss visa in the first place.
In any case, I think you should contact swiss embassy in Makati. They are usually very attentive.

If you are going to live in Switzerland with your fiance then you will need a residence permit. If the gemeinde in the place you will take residence issues you a B-Permit then you would not require a visa to Austria.
As of 12 Dec.The Swiss Embassies worldwide started issuing Schengen Visas, therefore you can travel to all other Schengen territories.

Based on what I understand, correct me if I am wrong, they will issue the B permit after we get married. We will get married around May.

So does that mean that, I cannot visit any schengen zone before I get married?

Not at all. The op raised a question that appeared to be confusing and the question you asked was an obvious one that came to mind - but it didn't fit with the visa "Raisons Familiales" which is not a visit visa but a family one.

So I checked the other recent posts to see if there was more to it.
