| | UK Passport renewal
Does anyone have any experience of renewing their UK passport via the consulate in Geneva.
My main concern is how long this will take & does anyone have any hints for FastTracking as in the UK.
Is it possible to make an appointement & have on the same day for a premium ?
Thanks in advance

Yes,renewed my passport many times about ten to be exact.
Takes ten days and super simple.
Just phone them up ask for the renewal form, fill it in send the money CHFrs. aaand your old passport, registered of course cash in the envelope, no problem.
Just get someone eg. teacher doctor or gemeinde to confirm on the photos aand that's it.
Voila. no problem.

I went in person to get mine renewed when I needed it in a hurry but that was a few years back so with the new passport rules all the fast track stuff may have changed. Your best bet is to call them & ask.

I did this by post. Be aware that you don't get the electronic tag , or even the machine readable text on your passport if you get it via the consulate. You would need this for US travel.
Better to do it while in UK and pay the (gulp) 120GBP for the priviledge.

dave | | | | | Hi Dave,
Normally I would, however my passport has expired, due to me being dumb & not paying attention, so need to get one sorted quick smart.

DAVE A. Don't know when you renewed yours last, but I did mine about July last year an I asked at the consul and they told me it was all correct for the US etc, it certainly looks faaancy compared to the others, so I cannot confirm if it is or not,but I do know it is machine readable because it was machine read at Auckland, because I asked them and they confirmed that. otherwise I don't know.

OK then things have changed. Which means I might go there myself for an "upgrade"

I've just used my newly-renewed-in-Geneva passport to go to the US.
The one I have is machine-readable and has digital photo which means it was issued pre-October 2006.
All passports issued since October 2006 have the biometric addition.
Send money and old passport registered post and within the week it's back. Not a problem (for renewals).

Hi all,
1. The following link contains the UK passport application forms: http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/ser...=1086625001580
2. The UK passport I was issued a few weeks from Geneva office is both biometric and machine readable (cost 228 CHF. Add 5 CHF for return postage).
3. I applied by post to Geneva and it took about 4 weeks. On the form you specify when you next intend to travel. They seem to have returned my passport just before the date that I specified as my next travel date - I wonder if I might have received it earlier if I had specified an earlier travel date.
4. You need to provide a good quality photo. There are specific rules about the paper quality, size etc. The above link also contains information on taking a good photo (the photo is ultimately used to take biometric measurements of facial features). I gave the instructions for taking the photo to a local phtographer who was able to pull it off.

On a side note- My current passport is valid till 08. Can I exchange it for a "US ready" passport now? Plus I don't like my current passport photo... |

And I don't like my passport photo either, it looks like I've been hit with the ugly stick. Then again so do I. |

P | | | | | If it is 'that' important you could EJ back to luton and get the passport done while you wait at the Peterborough passport office. You need to book it with them first though.
Costly, but 'do-able' depends if you want to look really daft when you can't fly somewhere for that 'really' important business meeting |

I think you can travel on an expired passport. I certainly have been here with no current passport for many months as I had no need to leave the country.
