Right to stay in Switzerland on loss of employment (B permit non EU citizen)

Does any body know what happens to a non EU citizen living in Switzerland on B-permit who loses his job ? Can he continue to stay in Switzerland ? How long ? Can he claim unemployment benefits ? If he/she can continue to stay can the B Permit be renewed upon expiry ?

Re: Right to stay in Switzerland on loss of employment (B permit non EU citizen)

As far as my research on this goes... we can stay in Switz with a B permit till the date of its validity and get unemployment benefits i.e only if this permit is not bound to the employer and if you are NOT on a contract with the employer. In other words, you need to have an independant B permit and must have unlimited employment with the company.

Pls correct me if I am wrong. I have been hunting for an answer myself.

Hi Vicky if you are not married with an ch or any EU you are kindly requesting to leave the country when your B-permit expired but if you find another work lucky you. Any additional info write me.

Re: Right to stay in Switzerland on loss of employment (B permit non EU citizen)

The person needs to speak to the relevant swiss authority (unemployment registration) ASAP - they will explain all the details.

If you have been in Switzerland long enough to be eligible for unemployment benefits, then you may even be successful in getting your B permit renewed whilst unemployed.

I think the unemployment benefit is a percentage of your last salary per month, it may also reduce over time, and for about two years before you run out and probably revert to some sort of very basic benefit.

Hope that helps - It's hard enough being out of a job at the best of times, let alone when it's unexpected and not in your home country...
