Residence permits to be biometric

This is going to cost a fair bit to implement and I am not sure Swiss efficency is going to be able to meet the deadline either

Cost will be passed on to the applicants. Will be expensive!

Re: Residence permits to be biometric

That is depressing to see. I already refuse to visit the US and Japan because they fingerprint all foreign visitors on arrival. Now I have to give my fingerprints up to live here?

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I associate fingerprints with a) criminality, and b) excessive government interference in the private sphere.

I travel to Japan for business frequently and was never finger printed upon arrival (have traveled on both my US and Swiss passports).

Can't disagree with the concerns but biometrics are here to stay, despite the cost. Had a biometric id card in Hong Kong. It was no big deal.

That's odd. It was meant to have started in 2007 and the Japanese authorities even boasted that they had caught some criminals on this basis.

From a Japanese govt authority website - http://www.immi-moj.go.jp/keiziban/h...er-english.pdf - says all foreigners entering need a photo and fingerprints taken.

Even in 2009 there is a story of someone dodging the system - http://www.smh.com.au/travel/woman-f...0102-78rv.html

Odd. Well, maybe I can go to Japan again.
