Children of non-Swiss parents

Hi, I have a question that I was hoping someone could help me with. I am planning to be in Switzerland for a few years and hoping to have a child. I am a female US citizen marrying a German citizen with a Swiss c-permit. What sort of permit would I and the child have, and would there be any potential problems? I know the child would not automatically receive Swiss citizenship, but would the child get a C-permit at birth? Would there be any potential hassles in raising the child if they were not a full citizen?

Thanks!!

Re: Children of non-Swiss parents

To my knowledge you would get a B permit for the first 5 years, any child born and living in the same household would most probably get a C due to your husbands C status. Your child would have the same rights to education etc. as a Swiss child. It only becomes complicated if you and your husband want to leave the country for more than 2 years with a view to coming back. Then the C permit would expire. If your family are still here when the child reaches full age he/she will be entitled to simplified naturalization.
Hope this helps

Your knowledge is good. Remove the probablies and you have provided the right answer - ie
As an American you would get an EU B permit and your child if born in wedlock would be entitled to the highest privilege in your household ie a C permit. As stated if you left for 2 years the C permit would indeed expire however this would not represent a hurdle as the EU bilateral agreement will then be in full force entitling EU citizens to full free movement within Switzerland and a non-restricted permit.

Thanks for your replies! I have heard that Switzerland is letting EU citizens have the same privileges as those with C-permits, but only on a trial basis for a few years; that is, they might stop the policy if too many take advantage of it.

Also, I have another question... my EU citizenship would depend on two years of residence in Germany, so that might never go through if we were to continue to live in Switzerland. But if I were living in Switzerland with a B-permit, would that convert to a C-permit automatically after 5 years?

It seems as if we should live in a house that crosses the border, so that I can live in Germany and get EU citizenship and he can continue to live in CH and not give up his C-permit!
