| | fingerprinting in Zurich
Anyone know where to go for fingerprinting in Zurich? This is in connection with the Swiss Migration Office request for a good standing certificate. Since our home country doesn't provide that, we've agreed to get a criminal record check but need to send 10-print cards home to start the process. Thanks in advance.

I understand that you can normally do it at the larger police stations. You will need to take the paperwork with you to explain why it is needed and what you need. Seem to remember someone having it done for about CHF 40.

Update: I was referred by the Zurich City Police to the Kanton Police for migration-related fingerprinting. The number is 044 247 2211.
My broken German didn't quite cut it with the operator so I'll have a friend intermediate about cost/appointment/etc. Will update further.

Do I need to make an appointment? Or just pitch up with my request, documents, and money?
I`m a dodderey old granny lady with not much sense of direction, so any clues to finding this police station after leaving the Zurich Hofbannhof will be much appreciated - thank you kindly.

Should still be valid. I would just show up. Bring the paper with the request for prints as well. They might want to know the reason for the prints.
Here is Google Maps for CH. Enter this text in the search line and you will get both marked on the map. Kasernenstrasse 29 Zürich +haufbanhof

Yes the info is correct. I got fingerprints taken a little over a month ago there. Just show up with your passport and cash, your document to renew your passport, then the process is pretty quick. Good luck!

Just a quick update from 2014: Zurich no longer provides paper-based fingerprints, as they have gone to a digital scanning system. I needed fingerprints for the FBI, and the two places to go are the main police stations in Winterthur or Bern. It costs 60CHF! Also, you should print and bring with you the fingerprint form in English - it's probably on the FBI site (the guy in Winterthur was nice enough to give me one, but he said if he hadn't had one in his drawer I would have been out of luck.) Bottom line - get your fingerprints back in the USA before you come here if you can - you'll need them to register here!

Anyone know what sort of fingerprints South African passport holders need to get.

Helpful money-saving tip: if you commit an offense, the police will cheerfully do the fingerprinting for free. They'll even put you up overnight, give you a change of clothes, and serve you a hot meal.
Hope this helps.

Hello Everyone, not sure if this helps or is relevant, but just got my prints done today (two copies of the SAPS-91A form) in Basel Stadt. CHF50-00 - they were pretty awesome and helpful, they said if they were not accepted for any reason to come back with my receipt and the will redo them..

Hi all,
Just thought I'd quickly share our experience from December.
As davidsiegel mentioned, they no longer do the fingerprinting at the Zurich Kantonspolizei. We initially went there and we were given a piece of paper with information regarding the Winterthur Kantonspolizei. They'll do your fingerprints there for 60CHF.
We called (+41 44 295 40 52) on a Monday morning and were able to go out and have our fingerprints taken that same afternoon. We took several copies of the form from the FBI with us ( link). The process was really easy and the two guys that were working there were very friendly.
We submitted our request through one of the FBI Channelers ( link). We sent all of the forms via normal A-Post and received our emailed background checks just about two weeks after we mailed the forms.
Be sure to take your US passport with you.
The place is about a 10 min walk from the train station. Address:
Offiziersposten Winterthur (OPO)
Kantonspolizei
Hermann Götz-Strasse 24
8400 Winterthur
Opening Hours: 7:30 - 16:30 M - F
I hope this helps someone!

Hi Tar_Vol,
Just wanted to ask you a quick question - how long did it take you to get your background checks from the US?! On the FBI website it says 14-16 weeks... but you mentioned a couple.. Was this notice on the website at the time too?
Cheers

Hello from 2016, Tar_Vol and Nuscha247,
I am wondering if you remember which FBI Channeler you used (the link doesn't work anymore), and also Nuscha247, in the end how long did it take for you to get your record? Does anyone know if the Winterthur and Basel police stations still do paper fingerprints (I will call them, but on the off chance you know...)?
Thank you!

I went to Winterthur two years ago, to the police station. It worked out well. Better to print and bring the form with you. They had one and gave it to me, but they said they don't always have them.

Thank you! So I will bring the fingerprint form off the FBI website, my passport, cash, and...should I bring anything else to prepare for bureaucratic surprises? The FBI application? My letter requesting this from the Migration office? Maybe I will just bring those anyway. Better to be over-prepared. Thank you!

No, they don't care why you're doing it. They just provide the service. So bring a passport, cash, and the form. BUT - you must make an appointment by phone first! It's Switzerland, remember.
