B type residence permit/Carte de legitimacion > extension

Hi there,

I'm a 24 year old single non-EU citizen who arrived to Geneva about 2 years ago with a student visa. Once my visa expired (after three month), I got my B type residence permit and then extended it (the B type permit) for another year.
Now, after having all my studies finished here in Geneva, my B type residence permit is due to expire on 30 September 2009.
At the moment I'm doing internship within a UN body and I'm supposed to get a "Carte de Legitimation" beginning from October 1 till December 15, 2009.

Now, I'd like to ask the following questions:

1 - Once I get my Carte de Legitimation, can I re-apply for B type work/residence permit later in December? If yes, then what are the conditions?

2 - I've read on the official state website that B type permits are normally renewed upon their expiration. Is it possible to re-apply for B type permit even if I am not employed, once I finish my internship in December (I've read somewhere that it is possible, though I didn't find the conditions)?

3 - I've read somewhere that Carte de Legitimation is something like a permit that you already have and that if you re-apply for B-type permit once again in the future, then the time/duration for which you had your Carte de Legitimation will also be counted within your total/overall duration of stay in Switzerland, thus making your stay un-interrupted (f. e., in case you decide to apply for a permanent residence permit after 5 years). Is it so in fact?

4 - I've also read somewhere that when you reach 25 (I'll be 25 in 2 months), the Canton gives you C permit, is it true? Where can I find more info?

5 - Few months ago, I've ready at Swissinfo.ch that there is an official federal state programme pursuant to which foreign students can get B-type work/residence permits upon the completion of their studies in Switzerland if there's place in the quota. How can I find information it? Any ideas?

Finally, any suggestions on how I can lawfully extend my residence in Geneva?

Lots of thanks in advance!!!

Yours,
R.

Well you are non-EU for starters so I think the word "dreaming" if you expect to suddenly end up with a C permit in 2 months time.

Can not answer any of the specifics but I would take a guess that in about oooh, ten years you maybe somewhere near due a 'C' permit.

Good luck with your attempt to stay here.

You can't apply yourself - your (potential) employer has to apply. Unless you plan to go the independent route.

No.

Correct, however time spent on a student permit does not count towards time required for acquiring a residence permit...

I for one have never heard of this, regardless of the canton. There is no legalese text allowing for it either.

Now *that* would be quite surprising since the actual policy is the exact opposite of that.
