| | B Permit restricted to 36 months???
Hi
I was hoping someone could help me out and give me some definite, accurate information on my B Permit.
I am a non-EU B Permit holder. The permit says that it expires every year (bear in mind that I have already renewed it once which was an easy process) but is restricted to 36 months.
As I am now in the process of changing jobs, there have been a number of questions raised by recruiters and my potential new employers about whether this will be an issue another year down the line. My question is, once I reach the 36 month mark, what do I have to do now to ensure potential future employers that I am able to stay and continue working. I don't believe I would be chucked out after 3 years of paying tax and being employed full time???
Could anyone answer this for me please? Many thanks for your help.

it's every 3 years for renwal ( and 70sfr's payment) EU members have to renew every 5 for a C permit.

Limited 3-year permits can in general be renewed once for another 3 year period and do not allow to change jobs.

It depends on how good your company is at arguing the need for employing you. When I first arrived I also had a restricted B for 36 months, but at the end of the period my company convinced the authorities that they still needed me and I now have an unrestricted B. I am also a non-EU passport holder.
I'm not sure you will be able to change companies under a restricted B permit.

Also, as soon as you leave this job, current B which is tied to current project cant be used for new job ( as you left the project and company to which it was tied) Inshort, you can use current B only for your existing company and project
this is what i heard and read, so if there is something changed..I will be happy to hear from you or others.

From personal experience I can tell you the following --
Your present employer has to apply to the Amt für Wirtschaft u. Arbeit to request them to take the limit off (aufhebung der befristigung). It entails a 200 CHF processing charge.
If they agree to take the limit off, you get a normal B -- with which it should be possible to change jobs.

hi, ip2012,
Could you please tell where did you get the information that if the company requests to take limit off and pay 200 CHF, then the B permit will be changed to a unlimited one? Do you have an official link for this?
Thanks

Thanks | | | | | They can apply, but it is not a guaranteed outcome.
BTW any recruiter hiring into Switzerland should be roughly aware of the limitations of non-EU B permits. Just my CHF .02

Hi,
Silly question, why would the company holding the permit, would be interested in supporting this limitation removal, hence giving the possibility the employee to go, when in theory, in this case non-eu, this resource was hard to find?
Don't get me wrong, I'm in the same situation like you, (restricted B permit - open contract - non EU), but I also put myself on the company's thinking.
Cheers,
Chris

I guess it depends on the Kanton. In some it's only for 12 months.

Hallo
Mine was also the same case like you . My permit was also restricted and I also heard that I have to leave swiss after 3 years and supposed not to change the job. I got recruited by a famous company in swiss and due to teh permit issue, I was not able to join there.
Luckily another company hierd me and gave me a new B permit and now .. after completeing 5 years in swiss , I got a c permit.

This really depends on the Canton you are working.
For non EU, in Zurich you have to renew every year and generally they have allowed people I know till even 5 years before asking for a firm local contract or attaching other conditions. In canton of Aaragu it is 4 or sotmime 5 years after which they have a lots of additional rules for approving extension. It you get an unlimited / "unbefristete" permit then you can more easily change the employer - else this is tied to your current employer.
