esmeinbs has no particular reputation at present
Is all that stuff really necessary???

I want to renew my British passport which just ran out last week.
The C1 form asks for information about my father's original British naturalization (he is German born), and my birth in the US (in 1958), but do I really have to provide all these papers again seeing as I have already had 2 British passports??
Can someone clarify?

If they're asking I'd presume it's for a reason and I don't see you having much luck in refusing. Best to contact the Passport Agency directly. They may be concerned about identity fraud, it's on a massive upswing.

I have found with applying for passports and other official documentation, it is less of a headache to provide everything they are asking for than to provide what you think they might need.

When I applied for my son's British passport they needed a multitude of documents and whatnot for which there was no option.
