How to become Swiss

Hi guys,

I have some questions re. “Ordentliche Einbuergerung”, undestanding that there are 2 600+ different ways to become Swiss, but nevertheless….

We are still only at the start of the process:
So far we have submitted all documentation to the local authorities and were subsequently invited by the police for a short interview. As far as we can establish none of our references (that we noted on our submission) were ever interviewed by the police, so we thought that everything was still in the hands of the police.

Last week however, someone from our Einbuergerungskommission (on Gemeinde level) called us and invited us for the “Einbuergerungs- gespraech”. Does this mean we have passed the scrutiny of the police and received a good report, or do these things somehow run concurrently?

Unfortunately we do not have the choice to go to some classes re. integration as is mandatory in some cantons and which may already give the authorities that nice “fuzzy” feeling that you have passed some preselection criteria. We would both have preferred a test and then cutting down the interview by half.

So what can we expect from this interview? We are studying all “Staatskunde” documents that were given to us, but these in turn reference other materials and depending on how much you want to study can lead to many (maybe unnecessary) hours of study?

Also, there is always this thing about language – how much is sufficient?

Thanks a lot,
