Re: US passport renewal

The travel plans are helpful if you want them to expedite, for example, if you're traveling in the next month. Otherwise, I guess you could say "no definite plans".

I sent cash and i mailed it from the post office, i think as an "R" type letter - someone has to sign it.

Re: US passport renewal

Hello. I'll be needing to renew my passport this year, but I am a little confused about the payment method. From what is currently on the embassy website, it seems to me that the payment method has changed from the "postanweisung" method in this thread. Has anyone done this recently and can give some insight on the payment method? Thanks.

Re: US passport renewal

I renewed my passport last month by going to the consulate office in Zurich with the option to having it mailed to me. You need to email them for an appointment if you do it this way. The new passport took less than 2 weeks to arrive. Pretty good option for anyone based in Zurich.

We went to the embassy in Bern. Paid at the cashier's window. US dollars - cash or credit. Mailed the passports to us a few days later.

Re: US passport renewal

Hello,

Regarding US passport renewal, in CH our wonderful US Embassy accepts for mail-in payment only a bank check drawn on a US bank. No postal money order is possible, no credit card (unlike US Embassy in Frankfurt) and no cash. I have checked two of the largest banks here and such a check cannot be obtained.
By email I was advised by the embassy to ask a friend or relative to buy one in the US and mail it to me. Kinda weird.

Regards to All

That must be new. I did mine two years ago and sent cash via a registered letter. Have you called the embassy and talked to them?

Re: US passport renewal

Yes it is relatively new for the mail in payment to Bern. They used to take a postal money order. I found out the UBS and CS will make such checks but only if you have an account. Cost is chf 40. All in all a great reduction in services that we pay for. In Zurich at the consulate they only take credit cards if you go there personally. All details are on the Internet.
Regards
