Does past B permit help?

Hi,

I'm a non-European scientist. I used to live in Switzerland (in Lausanne) for 7 years. I was a PhD student between 2001 and 2006 and stayed as a post-doc in the same place till 2007. During that period I had a restricted B permit. In 2007 I found a job in a hospital and received a normal B permit. I worked there for 9 months before finding a new post-doc position in US and moving there. It is now 2 years since I left Switzerland.

My wife has recently found a post-doc position in ETH Zurich. We'll move there within two months. I'll have to look for a job. I guess, if things have not changed much since we left, she'll receive a restricted B permit and I'll be dependent on her's.

I'm hearing that quotas are reduced a lot and getting new B permits are so difficult. At the beginning I shouldn't have much problem finding a job but eventually, when her post-doc finishes, both of us will need to get an unrestricted B permit to stay and work in Switzerland.

My question is: does my past and my previous unrestricted B permit help me at all? Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks a lot,
AelfSin
