I quit my job.Can I stay in Switzerland? [for 30 days past last date of employment]

I am Non EU national and is in Switzerland on B permit since last 4 years. I am resigning my Job in May and would like to just stay in Switzerland for additional 30 days. I have a valid B permit that expires in Nov 2010. Can I stay in Swiss after quitting the job ? Any info will be highly appreciated.

Just to add my B permit is B PERMIT (Ausländerausweis). I guess it is specific to company and project too.

Even if your permit is expired, you could still stay 1 month more.
It happened to two of my friends, they left one month after their permit expired. in fact, they went to Geminde to ask if they need to extend a bit for the stay.the answer was no need.
You can anyway go to your Geminde to ask to be sure.

Hi,

I would first look at the wording on you Ausweis. There are some permits that are not specific to certain employer and others that are not.

As you have paid AHV for 4 years you should be entitled to unemployment money ...providing you show proof that you are looking for a new job. However, it will be delayed by 6 weeks if you resign rather than losing your job.

all the best

Martin

Re: I quit my job.Can I stay in Switzerland? [for 30 days past last date of employmen

Hi
Rexz, may I know where you from because you said you're non EU. But why your permit have 5 years, usually non EU's permit B 1 year only. And EU they can take 5 years permit B. Can you take permit C if you get a new job before your permit expire's date before? ( because you stay here 5 years) Or you need more 5 year and then take C? I hope you'll get a new job soon.

Best wishes!

Victor

Incorrect. Americans/Canadians get it after 5, and other non-EUs have the option to apply early if they meet certain integration criteria.

Re: I quit my job.Can I stay in Switzerland? [for 30 days past last date of employmen

Hi All

Thanks for your reply. Please be noted that My B permit is not for 5 years. Its valid only for one year and expires in Nov-10. I have been staying in Switzerland since last 4 years and permit is getting renewed every year. I am paying AHV and Swiss Life contributions regularly. As I mentioned, I am resigning the job and would like to stay for few more days only to complete wind up formalities and do not want to claim unemployment benefits as I am not looking for a new job and leaving this beautiful country for good. In the light of above facts, can I stay for additional 30 days from the date I quit my job?
